Clopay Coachman Garage Doors
The carriage house classic: steel strength underneath, warm woodgrain character on top, zero wood upkeep.
Why homes pick the Coachman
If you want the carriage house look without the upkeep of real wood, the Coachman is the door we point people to first. It is built in four layers: a steel base, insulation, a second steel skin, and a textured composite overlay molded with a realistic woodgrain, so it reads like a classic wood door but stands up to daily family traffic. There is plenty of room to make it yours, with 15 carriage house designs, 16 factory color combinations, 20 top section styles, and 12 decorative hardware pieces.
Insulation is a choice too. Coachman offers polyurethane and polystyrene options rated anywhere between R-6.5 and R-18.4, so a workshop garage and a rarely-heated one can get different doors. One honest note: Coachman doors should not be painted dark colors, because that can void the warranty. We walk trade-offs like that with you at the free on-site quote.
Steel base, insulation, a second steel skin, and a woodgrain composite overlay on top. Carriage house charm, none of the sanding or staining.
Polyurethane or polystyrene cores rated R-6.5 up to R-18.4. We help you match the insulation to how you actually use the garage.
Fifteen carriage house designs, 16 factory color combos, 20 top sections, and 12 hardware options. We narrow it down with you in one visit.

Frequently Asked Questions
How well is the Coachman insulated?
You choose the core: 2-inch polyurethane, 2-inch polystyrene, or 1-3/8-inch polystyrene, rated from R-6.5 at the low end to R-18.4 at the top. If you heat the garage or have a room above it, we usually steer you toward the higher end.
Can I paint a Coachman door a dark color?
No, and this catches people off guard. Clopay's warranty does not allow dark paint on the Coachman because of light-reflectance requirements. If you want a dark carriage house look, ask us about Canyon Ridge Elements instead, which offers dark factory finishes.
How many design and color options does the Coachman have?
There are 15 carriage house designs, 16 factory color combinations for the overlay and base, 20 top section styles including windows, and 12 decorative hardware pieces. Clopay also offers a large custom paint program if the factory colors are not quite right.
Can I see a Coachman on my own house before I order?
Yes. Use our Design Your Door page to upload a photo of your home and preview Coachman designs, colors, and windows on your actual garage before you commit to anything.
How long does a Coachman take to arrive?
Lead times vary by design, color, and options, and they change through the year, so we do not print a number here. Ask us for current lead times when we do your free quote and we will give you a straight answer for the exact door you pick.
