Clopay Modern Steel Ultra-Grain Plank Garage Doors
Stained-wood plank looks printed onto tough insulated steel. Rustic warmth, modern flush panels, zero staining.
Why homes pick the Modern Steel Ultra-Grain Plank
The Modern Steel Ultra-Grain Plank splits the difference between rustic and modern better than any other steel door we install. The flush panels carry horizontal planks in a digitally printed, stained wood-look finish, and because the printing process varies the graining, no two doors repeat exactly. Underneath it is a three-layer build: steel, 2 inches of Intellicore polyurethane insulation, and steel again, with tongue-and-groove joints between sections to keep weather out.
The R-value is 18.4, strong enough for heated and attached garages. You pick from six plank finishes, including Natural, Cedar, Barnwood, Espresso, Kona, and Coastal Gray, five designs, and contemporary window options with slim or architectural glass placed where you want them. Optional WindCode reinforcement is there for high-wind areas. It is a distinct product from the standard Modern Steel line, and our free on-site quote will show you both.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Ultra-Grain Plank finish real wood?
No, and that is the point. It is a digitally printed wood-look finish on steel, with graining that varies so it reads as authentic stained planks. You get the warmth without the staining, sealing, or warping that real wood brings.
How is this different from the regular Modern Steel door?
Ultra-Grain Plank is its own product: a flush-panel door where the printed horizontal planks are the design. Standard Modern Steel offers flush or grooved panels in solid colors and other finishes. If you are torn, we can show you both at your quote.
What insulation does it have?
A 2-inch Intellicore polyurethane core rated at R-18.4, in a three-layer steel sandwich. It also meets strict air infiltration standards, so it is a legitimately efficient door.
Can I preview the plank finishes on my house?
Yes. Our Design Your Door page lets you upload a photo of your home and preview all six Ultra-Grain Plank finishes and the window options on your actual garage.
What is the lead time on an Ultra-Grain Plank door?
It depends on finish, windows, and season. Ask us for current lead times when you get your free quote and we will give you an answer for the exact door you want, not a guess.
